PRESSED FOR SPACE IN THE BEDROOM?
Hong Kong will always test our limits when it comes to space restrictions, but with an imagination - one can always find a way to make a bit of extra space in our already squeezed apartments.
Take for example - the under the bed drawer or storage box.
The picture above shows the drawer that sits under my side of the bed. An identical drawer rests in the other side of the bed for my partners exclusive use.
We have both elected to to make use of the drawers to store our excess shoes - however this is a personal choice. Your imagination, personal preferences, and the size of clearance under your bed are the only limits to what can be stored in these amazingly simple - but desperately needed storage accessories.
Our personal choice of under bed drawer is an elegantly designed pine wood drawer. It sits on rubberized wheels that allow it to effortlessly glide across the floor allowing effortless access to our hidden footwear.
No marks and no noise!
With dimensions at
690mm (D) x 800mm (W) x 190mm (H)
the drawer should fit most non-ensemble type beds. My partner and I have found that having our own under bed drawer space each has been essential to maintaining a tidy and organised bedroom environment.
Prices vary according the size, quality and construction material chosen.
Small plastic bed storage boxes can be purchased starting at HKD$56 from IKEA and PriceRite
Small wooden (or wooden like) versions start at HKD$250, again from IKEA. Larger and better quality products can be found at prices well above HKD$1,500.00 from reputable brands and stores all over Hong Kong. One can even find replica antique Chinese looking drawers out at Ap Lei Chau.
We have been using our drawers now for over 6 years and highly recommend the inclussion of bed storage drawers as part of your strategy for making effective and efficient use of your limited apartment space in Hong Kong.
